Get the Details on Pet-Friendly Places

Today’s downtown Evansville with its revived business sector, walkable Riverfront, and revitalized urban living is bringing people back to the banks of the Ohio. Post House is glad to be a part of this resurgence – and we’re currently leasing pet-friendly apartments!

If you’re a dog owner moving to Evansville, here’s what you need to know:

The Leash Law
Vanderburgh County requires any dog to be leashed “when it is off the owner’s property” with one end of the leash attached to the collar and the other end attached to the animal’s handler. The exception to this rule is that dogs may be off-leash inside a fenced dog park.

About Evansville Dog Parks
One of Evansville’s prime attractions – especially from a dog’s point of view – is Central Bark, located at the northeast corner of Kleymeyer Park. Operated by the all-volunteer Evansville Dog Owners Group, Central Bark is a quick six-minute drive from downtown. Central Bark does charge a membership fee (but if you live at Post House, you have access to our private dog park at no additional cost).

Where to Walk
Pigeon Creek Greenway Passage is a multi-use trail for walkers, bikers, and joggers that winds through downtown and along the Ohio River. The trail’s sections span about 7 miles.

Less than 10 minutes from downtown by car is Howell Wetlands, one of Indiana’s largest urban wetlands with two miles of hiking trails. Pets are permitted but must remain on a leash at all times.
