We’re also close to several downtown clothing retailers, including Schön Boutique, District 7 Boutique, and Paul’s Menswear – convenient stores for our residents who want to add new pieces to their wardrobe.
When you own quality garments, you want to keep them in good condition for as long as you can, and we’ve got some tips on how to do that.
Get the Most Out of Your Workout Gear
With our outdoor poolside yoga area and our state-of-the-art fitness center, you may find you’re washing your workout wear more frequently than usual. Most exercise clothing holds up well with repeated washings, but there are some special considerations for moisture-wicking athletic wear.
When washing moisture-wicking fabric, don’t overuse detergent, as it can leave buildup on the fabric. Use a half cup of white vinegar in the rinse cycle to break down buildup and remove odors, and skip the fabric softener, because it coats the fabric’s fibers and interferes with moisture-wicking. Wool dryer balls will keep static away without the buildup, and they’re reusable for up to three years, making them an environmentally friendly alternative to fabric softener sheets.
Check Care Labels
Before you remove and discard a scratchy label from a new garment, read the laundering instructions. If the label uses images instead of words, you can compare them to this handy chart of laundry symbols to make sure you know what they mean.
Store Off-Season Clothes Properly
Your clothes can be damaged even when you aren’t wearing them! As winter ends, store your wool sweaters and coats properly, so they’ll be ready to wear when the temperatures drop again. Launder or dry clean items according to care label instructions, then seal them in an airtight plastic container with white or unbleached tissue paper between garments. Don’t worry – your Post House closets are roomy enough to store your whole off-season wardrobe!
Treat Your Delicates With Care
In general, delicate items will last longest when hand-washed and air-dried. Just follow these steps:
• Pretreat any stains with an appropriate stain remover.
• Fill a (clean) sink with cool water.
• Add a small amount of laundry detergent, submerge the item and let it soak for a few minutes, then agitate the item with your hands for several minutes.
• Drain and rinse the sink and refill with clean water.
• Agitate the item in the clean water for several minutes, and rinse under the tap (or use your kitchen faucet spray nozzle)
• Gently press out excess water and lay the item flat to dry.
